Laptop Ladies Playfest Play Descriptions

10-4 : Hot off the computer, Caleen Sinnette Jennings presents her fifth new play of the WWIT Festival to celebrate WWIT's fifth anniversary! Directed by Cara Gabriel and Lillena Blain Cruz.

 

Long Beach ‘44 : A memory play, set in the beach town of Long Beach , NY, the summer of '44, follows the adventures of 2 young Jewish cousins, who discover a dangerous secret at the beach. Aided by their wounded G.I. uncle, back from the invasion of Normandy , they try to unravel the mystery, while their uncle struggles to accept his new identity. By Sidra Rausch and directed by Karen Berman.

 

365 Plays/365 Days : WWIT is delighted to participate in the national festival of plays by Pulitzer Prize winner Suzan-Lori Parks! Directed by Erin Neel.

 

Torch : A comic-tragic view of life and death in this story penned by a protege of the famed Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross who will be inducted this year into The National Women's Hall of Fame. Directed by Laura Giannarelli.

Astra : Earth women face danger thanks to the evil cyberspace mogul Dr. Hugo Light who plans to Ozone their brains and turn them into a tribe of futuristic Barbie Dolls!  In this comic book rock opera, Astronaut Trueshine flies to Eros to recruit the intergalactic Princess Astra to vanquish the villain and save womankind! Jerry Robinson of comic book Batman fame, and creator of characters such as the Joker, has penned an amazing new musical with co-author Sidra Rausch, Co-Artistic Director of Washington Women in Theatre. Music composed by Tom Boss, with additional music by Wayne and Dana Wilentz.

 

DC Chicks Cabaret Benefit : Songs for a Summer Afternoon: jazz, blues, pop, musical theatre, presented by the DC Chicks, students and faculty of Creative Music Workshop, Inc. accompanied by Chris Grasso, keyboard, to benefit WWIT.
